[Pfft, what's knocking between almost-siblings? Apparently, the concept is unknown to Marian who bursts into Hawke's small room unannounced, with her puppy on her heels, yapping excitedly.]
[it's not late, but it's a few hours later than he normally gets home. Anders walks through the door, shoulders slumped and looking tired; in fact, he looks like he might fall asleep standing soon. Not, of course, that he has any intention of going to bed just yet. He's got a few more books with him, and looking them over will take priority.]
[Hawke is not out, in fact. He is in, and semi-dozing in their shared room waiting for Anders to come back. He starts from his doze when he hears the front door open, and climbs quickly to his feet when he hears Anders' voice.]
No, I'm here.
[He'll step into the doorway between their room and the shared living space and pause for just a moment before coming all the way into the bigger room, approaching Anders quickly to welcome him back with a kiss.]
[ WELL this is not something he'd like to have to tell Hawke, but he feels responsible. So, in the midst of all this pirate nonsense, he shoots Hawke a quick text ]
[There's some delay before Hawke responds. He does like the convenience of the communication device, but that doesn't mean he's at all used to having it, yet.]
Out, but on my way back to the questionable luxury of my lodgings. Is everything alright?
[It's early morning, or what passes for early morning on the ship, and Anders has actually dozed off a few times. He's also woken up every time Hawke has moved, but he's still been able to get a little bit rest, and he's feeling just a little bit better as well.
But by now, he's also starting to feel hungry. He checks the time: Hawke has been sleeping (on and off, granted) for over eight hours. But he'd been truly exhausted, as well, and he might need more. Anders frowns, and then tries to dislodge himself from Hawke's grip. If he can get to his pouch, there should be an energy bar in there.]
[Hawke could probably sleep for eight more hours, but a combination of worry (he's still half-convinced he'll wake up to find Anders gone), biology (he really did drink a lot last night), and motion (Anders seems to be attempting to escape his deathgrip moving about) wake him. Which is fine. Worrying about Anders and making sure he's okay is easier when he's awake, after all.]
Mmmph. Morning?
[It's half question, half salutation, as he shifts off Anders a bit to allow him to move more freely.]
[Oh look, there's the dolphin pool. And oh look, Anders is stripping. It's been a while since he's had a chance to swim, so he won't be waiting for Hawke if he's slow.
[Good thing he's not waiting, then, because Hawke is slow!]
[Because he's busy checking out Anders, awwww yeah.]
[But once Anders dives in, Hawke will remove the rest of his own clothes (left in a careless pile on top of Anders' on the ground) and jump in after him.]
[Anders is having some trouble. He'd wanted to go find Hawke, but as it is, he's not even sure if he's on the right floor. He's not even sure if he cares, because as far as he can tell, there's a cat not far away. It's a big thing, black with white paws. He's crouched on his knees, reaching out to it.]
You're a beautiful cat. Come here. I just want to say hello.
[Cats. Cats everywhere. That seems to be Anders' problem today. Especially since they have a tendency to disappear into thin air whenever he touches them.]
[Funnily enough (or is that "predictably"...hello codependency issues), Hawke's been looking for Anders. He wasn't at the clinic and hasn't turned up in their apartment yet, so Hawke's been a bit concerned.
And when he finds Anders, crouched on his knees and reaching intently towards an invisible...something, he thinks he was right to have worried...]
[When Hawke gets back from whatever task he's been doing for whatever stranger he ran into today, he might notice an overturned coffee cup on the table, with a cat sniffing curiously at its spilled contents. And there are also splashing noises coming from the bathroom.]
No, Pearl, stay in. Here's the ball, you want to play with the ball?
[If he decides to investigate, he might notice a coffee-stained shirt on the floor. And an equally coffee stained pair of pants. And a nearly-naked Anders crouched over the bathtub.]
I'm not sure you should be drinking the water you're bathing in.
[How astute, Hawke has noticed all of these things. He even has the presence of mind to shoo the curious cat away from the spilled coffee, in case it thinks it needs to taste it, before following the splashing sounds and the trail of clothing toward the bathroom.
Upon reaching the bathroom doorway Hawke pauses, and leans against the door frame in order to take the time to fully appreciate the scene before him.]
What's going on? How come no one invited me to puppy bath time?
[It isn't often that Anders makes it home before Hawke, as normally he doesn't even think about leaving work until his lover shows up to drag him away from there. Today, though, has been an exception. Not only is he home, but he's passed out on the bed, where he has been for the past several hours.
It's a risky business, in their home. The first to take advantage of it was Maleficat, who jumped up neatly to hide behind Anders' head. Occasionally he would paw at the hair still trapped in a hair tie, but Anders didn't stir. And following Maleficat was Pearl. She jumped up near his feet, and, when she wasn't told off for it, quickly bounced her way up to his chest. She licked his chin a few times (no response), and then licked Maleficat, who startled back but didn't really mind, and then both pets fell asleep.
Apawstate found her way later. Anders' lap was still free, after all, and perfect for a lazy little kitten. Clearly, all three animals agreed, he'd looked lonely. And he'd forgotten to use a blanket. He might have gotten cold, had they not saved him!]
Well. It had been alright before he'd decided to drop in on his younger brother - a thing he'd been doing more or less regularly for the past month, ostensibly just for the sake of being obnoxious but mostly because he just...wanted to check in. Carver had disappeared from under his nose once before, in this place; he didn't want it to happen again.
Except it just had. His brother's name was no longer inscribed on the door to the room he'd been assigned, and the door itself had confirmed Carver's disappearance - as strange as talking doors still were to him, they did at least have their uses.
After that, he'd made his way to the clinic where Anders worked - a little faster, and definitely more urgently than usual - only to be told that the workaholic apostate had actually left early for once that day. He'd probably just gone home, back to their shared room, but having just suffered the unexpected and painful disappearance of one person he cared about, Hawke had practically panicked and rushed off in the direction of their apartment.
He wasn't quiet or subtle upon entering, calling for Anders even before the front door shut behind him, and loudly moving from the entry into the living area, then to the kitchen, bathroom, and finally bedroom.
He stops abruptly in the doorway, relieved and transfixed at the sight of Anders passed out on their bed, covered in pets. Apawstate flicks an ear in his direction from Anders' lap but doesn't otherwise respond to his presence. Maleficat, as usual, puffs up and flattens his ears, but Hawke ignores him. Pearl looks up, resplendent and glowing from her place of honor on Anders' chest, and wags her tail at him in greeting, but doesn't otherwise move - not that he blames her. This is an opportunity for her that does not often present itself.
Letting out a breath he hadn't properly realized he'd been holding, Hawke laughs quietly at himself, scrubbing a hand over his face and moving fully (and quietly) into the room. Anders must be exhausted, to still be so sound asleep after all the noise Hawke made coming into their apartment. It only takes moments for him to remove his boots and change his shirt, and then he's carefully joining their pets (minus Maleficat, who jumps down to the floor and stalks away as he crawls onto the bed) in cuddling Anders, stretching out and pressing himself against the other man's side, draping an arm over his chest (while carefully avoiding dislodging Pearl!) and making a pillow of his shoulder.
He doubts he'll sleep - having assured himself that Anders is safe, his mind returns to his disappeared younger brother - but the warmth and solidness of his lover is comforting, as are the warm damp kisses Pearl places on his nose and eyelids from her vantage point, making this an excellent place to sit and stew in guilt, self-flagellation, and thoughts of 'what if'.]
[action; puppy play dates, y/n?]
Hawke, I've got it!
[action; yyyyy!]
Haven't you ever heard of knocking?
[He has to give her a hard time, it's not because he actually cares.]
[action]
Or I can just not tell you if you'd like to turn into the mum of the party.
[Not that she means that either. C'mon Hawke, she wouldn't be here if it weren't important. Or at least worth hearing.]

I wanted to take a look at the free clinic here. It's good to know if it's a place we can rely on.
[his head drops to Hawke's shoulder. He probably should have had something to eat earlier.]
It was busy, so I thought I'd give them a hand.
